ravi soups is jesus

k so this place is amazing. i love and adore soups. they don't have many calories, and can sometimes be an incredible orgy of varying flavors and textures when done right. well, ravi (of mildred peirce fame) knows how to make a spectacular orgy. i ordered the chicken hot pot, and he somehow made pineapple peices in soup seem appropriate. i accompanied this with a wrap that was equally to die for. it was beef curry with yams and (again) pineapple. he really does love the festive fruit, which may be a little too much, but he makes it work. i highly recommend this place as it is gourmet lunch at its best. plus, the pricing is really reasonable. you don't have to shell out $15 for half of a sammy like over at montreal bread & co.

LOVES IT

vintage madonna: when she was better

this is my fav madonna song ever *, and 3rd single off her super controversial album of the early nineties 'erotica'. it came out around the time her b movie 'body of evidence' hit theatres. the song was curiously left off the soundtrack because she prolly wanted to disassociate herself with it as much as she could. probably the worst (in my opinion, best) movie ever made and was universally panned. whatevs, so happy we have youtube so we can reflect on times when madonna was actually ok. lookout for a cameo by christopher walken and indoor smoking...two things we abandoned in the nineties.

* maybe? 'burning up' was pretty good too...ohya, and 'secret'...and 'human nature'...

la mome piaf

call me a homosexual male, but i loved it. marion cotillard gives an amazing portrayal of the lady-who-had-the-worst-slash-ok-life-ever: edith 'piaf' gassion. it's a total sad fest for all you emos, but worth it. gives great insight into the parisian cabaret scene during the mid-30s. i was fake-signing french music for like 2 hours afterwards.

spice route

hello yall. today's my bday, and since i've been out and about eating, haven't been able to post in a while.

so, i give you: spice route. this is a newly opened 'resto-lounge' on king that brings the ever popular asian-fusion foods and drinks to your typical bay street banker. i've eaten here a few times cause i have a friend who enjoys the atmosphere (you can smoke on a pretty patio). all in all, this place is 'aiiiiight'. nothing spectacular, however their deep fried calamari and shrimp with their tartar sauce is pretty delicious. i think the main issue there is the service. apparently all the staff quit one week after the opening (about a month ago), so they've been struggling to compensate. our poor waiter seemed to be taking care of 100 tables. not to be an asshole, but we had the private room and spent a lot of dough, so you'd think the service would be impeccable or above par at least. but, non. we didn't even get out DRINKS on BOTH occassions until 45 mins into our service. they took our food orders about an hour into sitting there.

however, the seating area is gorge, and the little room has a huge glass table with red roses underneath it giving that 'wow' factor.

hahahhaaaa, ohya, and the menus have an extreme creepy factor with this crazy person's face on the front. i forgot to take a pic, but if you go there, you'll know exactly what i'm talking about.

i recommend the calamari and shrimp, spring rolls, and dynamite rolls.
